Look inside every size ring and lip
Wet food can collect where a flexible cover grips the rim. Remove visible residue before washing and inspect the underside as carefully as the top. If the lid has several diameter rings, flex them gently so water can reach the grooves.
Use the care method the cover allows
Wash with appropriate dish soap and water or use a dishwasher only if the maker says the cover is dishwasher safe. Rinse thoroughly and let it dry completely before judging whether odor remains.
Inspect the surface after it is clean and dry
Cuts, deep scratches, permanent tackiness, or material that flakes when flexed are different from food odor. Do not keep a damaged cover on a can where small pieces could contact food.
Store the food, not the open can, by safe-time rules
A lid helps cover refrigerated food but does not reset how long opened wet food remains suitable. Follow the food manufacturer's refrigeration and discard guidance, and use a clean utensil each time you portion food.
When a product change is not the first step
Discard food if you are unsure how long it has been unrefrigerated or if it has an unusual appearance or odor. The reusable lid does not make spoiled food safe.
Product comparison note
What to compare if equipment may help
Match the actual can diameter, choose simple grooves that are easy to wash, and follow the manufacturer's dishwasher or hand-wash instructions rather than assuming all silicone lids tolerate the same care.
