Unplug before moving a wet setup
If the cord, plug, adapter, or outlet area is wet, keep your cat away and avoid touching electrical parts with wet hands. Safely disconnect power before repositioning the fountain. A cord with chew marks, exposed conductors, a loose connector, or heat damage should not be plugged back in for a test. Contact the manufacturer about an approved replacement.
Create a dry route instead of stretching the cable
Place the fountain so its cable can reach power without crossing the drinking area or creating a trip loop. Keep adapters and connections away from splash zones and follow the fountain maker's placement instructions. Do not use an extension cord or improvised connector unless the equipment manufacturer and electrical safety guidance for your setup allow it.
Cord covers only solve part of the problem
A protective sleeve may discourage access to a cable but does not make a damaged cord waterproof or chew-proof. Secure excess length where the cat cannot bat it into the bowl, and inspect the route during cleaning. Never wrap a warm power adapter in fabric or seal a damaged cable with tape as a permanent repair.
Keep drinking water available while the fountain is offline
Set out clean bowls in familiar locations if you need to unplug the fountain for inspection or replacement. Monitor whether your cat continues to drink. A sudden change in thirst, refusal to drink, lethargy, or suspected electrical injury should be discussed promptly with a veterinarian.
