Open the dispenser before pulling harder
Remove the roll and check whether it sits on an axle, in a cradle, or loose inside the case. Compare the roll width with the dispenser cavity. If the roll is too narrow, it may wander sideways; if it is too wide, the edges can drag. Pulling hard on a jammed bag can tear it at the perforation and leave you without a usable bag outside.
Thread the first bag in the intended direction
Find the exit slot and feed only enough material through to grip the next bag. The perforation should remain outside or at an accessible point rather than disappearing deep in the case. If the dispenser has an axle or spring, assemble it as shown by the manufacturer. Avoid adding sharp pins or homemade parts that can puncture bags.
Test it at home with clean bags
Close the case and pull out two bag lengths slowly. The roll should turn without jumping off its support, and you should be able to separate one bag without the next one retracting completely. If the cap pops open during the test, inspect its threads or latch as well; a perfectly fed roll is not useful if the case will not stay closed on a walk.
Match replacement rolls to the holder
Measure the roll width and core opening before buying a large refill pack. Some dispensers are designed around a particular core size. Keep a few loose backup bags in another pocket for walks, because any dispenser can jam. Dispose of used bags according to local rules and keep unused bags away from pets that chew plastic.
