Empty the pouch before touching the slider
Move treats to a clean container and shake loose crumbs out over a trash can. Brush dry debris away from the zipper track with a soft brush if the care instructions allow it. Do not spray household lubricant where it can contact treats.
Separate a dirty zipper from a damaged one
Look for missing teeth, a bent slider, torn zipper tape, or fabric trapped in the track. If the slider repeatedly separates the teeth behind it, cleaning alone will not restore a secure closure. Use another pouch until the maker can advise on repair or replacement.
Test the zipper with the pouch empty
After cleaning and drying, move the slider slowly from end to end several times. It should not need a hard tug at one spot. Add only a small amount of treats and walk around indoors to make sure the pouch stays closed and does not flip at your waist.
Choose the next pouch around cleanup
A removable or wipeable liner, simple seams, and a closure you can operate with one hand make daily use easier. Keep a separate pocket for waste bags, phone, and keys so food residue does not spread through the pouch.
When a product change is not the first step
Discard treats that contacted cleaning chemicals or dirty zipper debris. If a metal or plastic zipper piece breaks off, keep it away from your dog and replace the pouch if the closure can no longer stay secure.
Product comparison note
What to compare if equipment may help
Compare a wide opening, washable liner, secure closure, and a belt attachment that stays stable while walking. Keep treats separate from keys and other dirty items.
